18/10/24Our Services Bump to Baby

At Back to Health we have a particular interest in working with both mums to be and babies. We have a number of team members who have undertaken addition training and qualifications to specialise in treatment during pregnancy, postpartum and treating new born babies and toddlers.

Pregnancy care

We firmly believe that regular check-ups are an important part of a healthy pregnancy, alongside the check-ups you undertake with your doctor and midwife. It is advisable to seek advice from a GP or midwife about your symptoms before you see a chiropractor or osteopath. We are able to provide support for Mums to be both throughout their pregnancy journey and also post partum both for mum and baby.

What causes back pain and discomfort during pregnancy?

A woman’s body changes during pregnancy - those changes include softening of ligaments, changes to posture and weight increase. These can lead to additional pressures on joints in various parts of the body, including spine or pelvis.

The most common conditions therefore that we treat pregnant mums for are lower back pain and pelvic pain. Mums can be safely treated in the third trimester, right up until birth. We even have a specially shaped cushion so she can lie in comfort on your front. Many mums find this so comfortable they want to take it home!

We look at the whole needs of our mums, the professionals who you may have treatment with at Back to Health include chiropractors, osteopaths, acupuncturists, massage therapists and reflexologists.

As the baby grows, so the mother’s body adapts to accommodate it. The role of your practitioner is to make sure that the body is able to perform at its best to cope with pregnancy and be ready for the birth process.

We nurture newborns and care for your children

There is no minimum age for providing chiropractic and osteopathic treatment. We treat babies, toddlers, children through to their teenage years and support parents and guardians in the care of their children. The youngest patient we have welcomed to our clinic was four days old.

Paediatric Care

We have chiropractors and osteopaths who have completed extra training and qualifications in the paediatric care of babies and are experienced in treating children of all ages. They often work alongside midwives, doulas and tongue tie consultants.

Paediatric Treatment

Babies’ skeletons are softer than an adult’s and they use gentler techniques when treating babies. Techniques used on babies and children are delicate, careful and always tailored for the individual. At a first appointment with our team your baby will be checked for stresses and strains which may be affecting them. The treatment for babies and young children is modified using a slight pressure (sustained release) most commonly rather than the manipulative technique used on adults. Cranial techniques are also used when treating young children and newborn infants as they are safe, gentle and non-manipulative.

We are proficient in gentle techniques suitable for babies and gentle manipulation could help soothe and relax your baby, you will always be present and treatment is only ever undertaken with your consent. We do our utmost to provide support and assurance to both your baby and you.

Both Osteopathy and Chiropractic techniques are suitable for children at all stages of development. Whilst we often see babies and children after they have been experiencing symptoms, we believe that being pro-active and preventing an issue before it arises is the key to good health and encourage regular assessments, as we do with adults.

Treatment for children

During the course of a child’s development to adulthood there are many issues which may arise with their musculoskeletal system, as there are with adults including sports injuries. Our team for children includes osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists.

If they encounter back pain, joint pain, sports injuries, posture issues such as tech neck and other musculoskeletal issues our team are on hand to assess and provide treatment.

Physiotherapy is an excellent option for children of all ages as it can improve their physical capabilities and reduce pain caused by conditions such as musculoskeletal injuries, developmental delays, sport-related injuries, post-operative rehabilitation and postural problems.
