Starting your health journey
Your journey with us begins when you book your initial assessment appointment. We will email you a medical history form to complete prior to your attendance. When you attend for your initial appointment your Practitioner will talk with you and go through a detailed history of your problem. They do this because they need to determine exactly what your problem is and what type of care is suitable for you.
Your Practitioner will examine you and undertake tests to aid with their diagnosis. For the majority of patients these tests are all that is necessary. However for some people the professional may feel it is necessary to arrange further tests. You may be referred to your GP or we may arrange further tests with one of our partners. We are partners with Coastal Imaging who undertake Ultrasound tests and with Vista Health for MRI scans.
At that first appointment your Practitioner with provide you with a verbal report of findings and outline your individualised treatment plan. You will have the opportunity to ask questions to enable you to understand the diagnosis and treatment and to agree the treatment plan. You will then receive your first treatment.
What happens after my Initial Assessment Appointment?
We treat each patient as an individual and therefore your course of care will be tailored to your personal needs. If you have been suffering with a condition for months or year, chronic conditions, your practitioner will have explained that it will take longer to ‘retrain’ your body back to where it should be. If you condition is acute, you may only need a few treatments to get on top of it. At Back to Health we promise to never sell unnecessary packages of care to any of our patients. Whatever your prescribed care, we believe health and wellbeing is a partnership
Chiropractor or Osteopath?
There are many more similarities than there are differences between Chiropractors and Osteopaths. Both disciplines incorporate a broad array of techniques and by encompassing both disciplines we are able to offer the widest range of treatments for you.
There are many different ways of practicing in both professions. Our practitioners have the same intentions for their patients so our Osteopaths deliver care in a very similar manner to the Chiropractors.
What qualifications do your professionals have?
Chiropractors must complete a degree or postgraduate master’s degree approved by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). Similarly, Osteopaths must complete a degree or postgraduate master’s degree approved by the General Osteopathy Council (GOsC). These qualifications usually take 4 or 5 years. Chiropractors must also be registered with the GCC and Osteopaths with the GOsC before they can offer treatment to patients.
Both Chiropractors and Osteopaths have to continue their training each year after graduating, this helps ensure you are always in safe hands when receiving treatment.
How long is an Initial Assessment Appointment?
Your health issues are unique to you, as we cannot be sure until we meet you exactly what tests are needed for your diagnosis, or what type of treatment you will need, there is not an exact answer to this question. Although we allocate up to an hour for your Initial Assessment, commonly an appointment is between 20 and 45 minutes long. We want to ensure your practitioner has more than enough time to assess and diagnose you fully.
Is chiropractic treatment just clicking your spine and neck?
Chiropractic treatment recommendations may include a combination of treatment techniques including:
- Manipulation and mobilisation to restore range of movement and correct joint dysfunction
- Methods for improving soft tissue healing & pain control, such as ultrasound?, electrical stimulation?, and medical acupuncture
- Exercises to improve muscle balance, strength and coordination
- Patient education to improve posture and motor control
- It may be recommended that you also have other complimentary modalities such as massage or acupuncture.
- Applying heat/cold packs at home, and advice on nutrition
What happens if the professional makes a diagnosis that their care is not suitable?
If the diagnosis is not suitable for chiropractic or osteopathic care, your practitioner will either refer you internally to another practitioner – e.g. acupuncturist, physiotherapist or massage therapist, or they will refer you to your GP.
What if I don’t have email to complete the health questionnaire?
You can arrive 15 minutes early and complete the questionnaire in the clinic.
What should I wear when I come for my Initial Chiropractic Appointment?
Wear loose comfortable clothing.
